Great Ways to Lose Weight – Take The Edge Off Your Hunger

How many times have eaten in a nice restaurant, ate an appetizer, ordered a salad, had a slice or two of nice warm bread…only to find that once the main course was served you weren’t able to eat all of it because you were too full? There’s a reason you were full. While restaurants are chiefly concerned with making a profit, you can use their tricks to your benefit to lose weight at home.

The brain takes about fifteen minutes to get the message that the stomach is full. So, by having an appetizer before the meal, you are giving your brain enough time to start receiving its signals from the stomach. Something as simple as preparing a healthy appetizer to have before dinner will make you feel full, without overdoing it on the calories. Here are a few ideas for some appetizers that can help you take the edge off your hunger.

Take four large radishes and grate with a peeled cucumber; salt lightly. Then blend three or four chopped scallions with low-fat, or non-fat cream cheese. Once this is done, drain any excess liquid from the cucumber and radish mixture then combine with the cream cheese and scallions. You can serve this with squares of whole wheat toast, or fresh vegetables. You can make this spread ahead of time and store it in the fridge for several days.

One of the reasons a lot of people dine out is that it is more convenient. And with today’s busy lifestyles, it’s nice to be able to eat without too much hassle. If you are looking for a convenient appetizer, then it’s hard to beat a salad in a bag. Simply grab the pre-chopped blend of greens that you prefer and add some salad dressing. Just make sure that the salad dressing isn’t high and calories, and use it sparingly. Of course you can always whip up a salad on your own if you are on a budget, or just prefer to do it that way.

You can make a quick soup by heating two cups of chicken broth and adding some mixed vegetables. The nice thing about soup is that there are nearly endless variations to suit your taste. That means you don’t have to get tired of eating the same soup while you’re trying to lose weight. You can add some finely diced ginger, some oriental style veggies and soy sauce to taste for a nice oriental soup. A nice Italian soup can be made by adding chopped spinach along with basil, oregano and garlic. Go ahead and have fun, experiment a little and enjoy having a nice bowl of soup before dinner.

There are so many ways you can start your meal off right. When you give your brain enough time to realize your stomach is full, you will eat less, and that means you will be giving yourself the edge when it comes to losing weight.
